FAMILIES RECOVERING TOGETHER

Reuniting Families

We want to see Lanier County kids in foster care reunited with healthy parents in a healthy home. We do that in Families Recovering Together through parenting classes, life skills classes, in home visitation, therapy, and support groups. We work with the families before they are reunited and 15 months after reunification.

Helping Women Recover:

A Program for Treating Addiction

The comprehensive, twenty-session curriculum contains four modules that address the areas that women in treatment identify as triggers for relapse: self, relationships, sexuality and spirituality. They include the issues of self-esteem, sexism, family of origin, relationships, domestic violence, and trauma.  The user-friendly and self-instructive materials are a step-by-step facilitator’s guide and a participant’s journal, entitled A Woman’s Journal, that is filled with self-tests, checklists, and exercises to enable each participant to create a personalized guide to recovery.

Parenting Class

The Nurturing Program for Families in Substance Abuse Treatment & Recovery is built on the principles of relational development. We believe that success and satisfaction of parents and children improve as certain essential factors become more vital and pervasive within the relationship.

These factors are:

• Mutuality: Characterized by a dynamic, interactive sensitivity and responsiveness
• Authenticity: Freedom and ability to live within the relationship at a high level of exposure and vulnerability
• Empathy: Process by which the disclosure and sharing of oneself leads to a heightened sense of self, and of understanding another; self-awareness and self-acceptance enhance awareness and acceptance of others

Relationships

This 8-hour, research-informed, couples education curriculum engages couples in learning and practicing the seven core principles/skills essential to maintaining healthy and stable relationships.

Raising Highly Capable Kids is a 13-week curriculum that is based on the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets. Search Institute has undertaken decades of research with more than 5 million children and found that there are 40 building blocks every child needs to grow and mature. And the more of these Assets a child has in her life, the more likely she is to engage in healthy behaviors while veering away from those that are unhealthy.
