Be a Boss Budget Class Empowers Families with Real-Life Financial Tools

At Lanier Family Connection, we believe knowledge is power — especially when it comes to your money. That’s why we were thrilled to partner with Lanier UGA Extension and Farmers & Merchants Bank to bring the Be a Boss Budget class to our community this week!

The event was a huge success, with families walking away encouraged, equipped, and ready to take control of their financial future. From simple budgeting strategies to understanding bank services and loans, the evening was packed with practical tips and tools anyone can use.

Lee Anne Cordell with UGA Extension kicked things off by walking families through smart budgeting practices and decision-making tools to help determine what’s truly a need vs. a want. She also shared a resource she created just for this class — the Be a Boss Budget Book, filled with easy-to-follow advice and tracking sheets to help participants stay on top of their spending. To keep the momentum going, Lee Anne even started a Facebook group so attendees can continue getting support, share questions, and celebrate budgeting wins together!

Lisa Morgan, with Farmers & Merchants Bank, offered clear and helpful information about checking and savings accounts, CDs, IRAs, and safe deposit boxes — breaking it down so anyone could understand how each financial tool works and how to use them wisely.

Alex Lee, also with Farmers & Merchants Bank, shared insight into the different types of loans available and what families should know before borrowing.

Families were treated to a delicious meal, thanks to the Lanier Family Connection Kinship Program, before diving into all the financial fun.

It was a night filled with teamwork, laughter, learning, and a shared goal: helping families feel more confident and capable when it comes to money.

We're incredibly thankful to our partners at UGA Extension and Farmers & Merchants Bank for making this possible — and we can’t wait to host more classes like this in the future!
